A bit of history about CROSS CURRENT MUSIC inc.


Founded in 1992, by Patrick Darby, CCM (Cross Current Music) is dedicated to artist promotion, management and the organization of tours.


Our mission : offering high quality product that are valuable for local, national and international world music market.

The long experience of Patrick Darby as the artistic director of Traquen’Art gives a chance to CCM to be ahead. He created his first company, no profit making, in 1982 with the objectif to pass on his passion of world music and current music. Traquen’Art offered a considerable number of production since the beginning. The road was trace for the establishment of the next step, Cross Current Music. That was how CCM get into the Montreal music scene, leading by a length. After only a year, the company was ready to co-organize the Blues Festival of Montreal (1993). The success has been immediate and CCM decided to reiterate the experience the year after.

Beyond big event, Cross Current initiated a lot of tour in Canada and in the USA with a specialisation in world music. The first year, the company (1992) starded with Élio Révé and his Orquestre of Cuba, l’Ensemble Mohammed Ghania of Moroco and Fatima Tihihit Mazine and his Ensemble du Maroc. There were, among other things, l’Ensemble Khac Chi from Vietnam-Vancouver in 1996 et 1997, la Familia Valera Miranda of Cuba on the summer 1999 and more recently, the Hugarian group Besh O droM (2004) and the group from Iran/USA NIYAZ (2006). Cross Current Music produced the first disc of Papo Ross and Orquestra Pambiche (in nomination for a JUNO award in 1995).

To know a bit more about the founder

Patrick Darby is a big lover of world music. He always campain for the rich sound that transcend from this type of music. He produces over 350 shows with his compagnies Traquen’art and Cross Current Music. He initiated a few big project like New Music America-Montreal in 1990. Mr Darby never does  things in half and it is why, for Traquen’Art 10 years anniversary, he decided to organize les Quinzaines de Montréal (1992) with theme the cello. The success of this event will bring him to repete the experience in 1994 with the voice as a focus point. His high knowledge in the matter gave him the opportunity to be a part of the jury for the JUNO award in 1999 and in 2002. Outside his company, Patrick Darby share his love of music by being broadcast programmer for the radio «Musique du monde - Global Village» in the non stop music station GALAXIE on Radio-Canada radio. He also takes place on the administration council of CINARS and has been called, more than once, to be a jury at the Conseil des Arts du Québec and at the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec.
